Social Security more essential than ever

The meltdown of private pension plans, 401(k)s and Individual Retirement Accounts during the recession demonstrates that Social Security is more essential than ever, says Merton C. Bernstein, LLB, the Walter D. Coles Professor Emeritus at the School of Law. Caution for estrogen therapy after hysterectomy

In an editorial in the April 6 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association, co-author Graham Colditz, MD, PhD, cautions against estrogen-only hormone therapy in women who have had a hysterectomy because of longstanding evidence that it raises the risk of breast cancer. FULL STORY

Stalker Award goes to Chung

Yan Yi “Anny” Chung is the winner of the 2011 Stalker Award. The award is given to the graduating senior in biology in Arts & Sciences whose undergraduate career was marked by outstanding scientific scholarship as well as contributions to the university in areas of artistic expression and/or community service. The Campus Diversity Collaborative (CDC), which aims to increase awareness of diversity and inclusion issues at WUSTL, is seeking new members among faculty and staff.   • Women’s golf wins Illinois College Invitational. The No. 5 women’s golf team won its second team title of the year at the Illinois College Spring Invitational April 2 and 3. WUSTL led the two-day tournament from start to finish, completing the 36 holes of play with a 686 (333-353). The Bears return to action Saturday and Sunday, April 9 and 10, at the DePauw University Invitational in Danville, Ind.
